Week of 1/9

Last week was a great start to the 2nd semester!  The kids came back ready to learn and I loved their attitude on Thursday when we didn't have a snow day.  There were no sour attitudes, just smiles.  I am SO lucky to learn with your kiddos.

This week we get back into the swing of things.

For 3rd quarter, we will be focusing on our vowels and the short and long sounds that they make.  We will be looking for those sounds at the beginning, MIDDLE and end of words.
We will begin this week with Short and Long A (apple, bat, acorn, and rain, etc.)

Reading/Writing:
Story of the week: "I'm a Little Snowman" poem and "I Love Snow" big book, (our focus is on rhyming).

Writing: Writing letters to friends.  Addressing envelopes.

Math:
Numbers 11-20: counting out objects to match the number.
Teen numbers start with a 1.  All of the different ways we can show 11 and 12.

Teacher Notes:
Report cards should have been emailed last week. I spend a lot of time assessing and gathering as much information as I can about each one of your children and I try to communicate their progress in the report cards; however, the report card is set up to show whether a student is meeting current expectations. Those expectations often increase each quarter and therefore the grade that they receive may also change.  I hope to have explained these changes in the comments, but if there are any remaining questions or you feel that a mistake has been made, do not hesitate to ask me about it. :)

I will be out of the classroom on Tuesday for Reading training and Thursday for writing training.  Please contact me through email, but if you have any last minute changes with transportation on those days, please call the office, so they can let the guest teacher know.  Thank you!
